Customized Neurological Occupational Therapy in Lancaster County, Ephrata, Pennsylvania and surrounding areas

LIKELY, NO ONE TOLD YOU THIS…

The "wait and see" method for development, academic performance, gross and fine motor skills, concussions, brain injury, and stroke with visual impairment doesn't work for everyone. When doctors tell you to rest or wair and “give it time” it can seem impossible when you have a job, hobbies, a family, friends, pets and more to take care of. Furthermore, as time passes, and you find yourself, or your child, no better than before, it can feel frustrating and isolating. The world around you is telling you to move on, but you can hardly move without the world moving around you.

At Neu View Occupational Therapy, we understand these vast complexities and diverse presentations of symptoms. We use the eyes and body as a window to the brain and this allows us to provide personalized and proactive symptom management for optimal recovery.

MAYBE YOU’VE FOUND YOURSELF

Experiencing eye pain and strain

Patients with brain injuries may have eye pain and strain due to visual problems and difficulty controlling eye movements. Reading, driving, and even just simply eye movements can cause visual discomfort and headaches.

Experiencing Double Vision

You are not alone if after 5 minutes of reading the letters seem to move on the page. Or, when looking from your phone to your pet you briefly see two of them. Diplopia, double vision, is common after brain injury due to the complexity of coordinating the 12 muscles of the eyes to work together.

With Dizziness or new or worsening motion sickness

You always used to be the navigator in the car and now you can’t even keep your eyes open. Or maybe you have to sit in the back and only watch the seat in front of you. House chores now knock you down for hours. Dizziness and motion sickness are often due to a disconnect between the visual and vestibular systems following a brain injury or concussion.

Missing part of the world around you

Do you often loose things only to be told it was on the left hand side? Or when you wipe the table after dinner your partner tells you that you missed a whole portion of the table? Visual field deficits are most common with right brain strokes but can happen to any level of degree with all strokes and can lead to frustration, decreased independence and safety concerns.

Lights at the grocery store give you a splitting headache, you cant find your can of beans because of all of the loud labels in front of you. When dining at your favorite restaurant, you can’t concentrate on your loved one in front of you because all you can hear is the dishes in the kitchen, and the conversation of the table next to you. Difficulty with sensory modulation is a common symptom after any brain injury due to the brain’s increased difficulty with processing sensory information.

Unable to go to your favorite restaurant or the grocery store

Feeling Uncomfortable in Your Own Skin

Maybe when you walk it seems like the ground is moving beneath you; you have difficulty with navigating in crowded environments; or maybe you feel in a constant fog. Visual midline shift is a result of poor processing of visual information in relation to person, time and space.

At Neu View Occupational Therapy we believe in THRIVING, not just surviving.  Here’s how we help:
